Affirm and Your Bankruptcy
Question from Real Client:
“How horrible would it be to keep ‘Affirm’? Can we even do that without messing up our bankruptcy? They text me that I have a payment due on Oct 19th, it’s tied to our Debit Card, not a Credit Card. But I wanted your advice.
Don’s Answer:
“Affirm” is a credit account, basically a credit card, similar to Care Credit. You MUST list all credit accounts, and usually, companies like that will close your account when you file. Technically, if Affirm came to the Court and argued about it, they could say you cannot discharge your debt to them. It is virtually certain they will not do that for the amount you owe. However, I am pretty positive you will not be able to “keep” the account. When you file, it will get closed. However, people are telling me they get new card offers within a month after filing, so you will most certainly have the ability to revive your credit card addiction.
